NZ Music Month

The month of May marks New Zealand Music Month 2023! The purpose of NZ Music Month is to celebrate music from Aotearoa, and the people who make it. There’s a whole heap of epic music happening in and around Canterbury throughout May – find out more here.

Christchurch Libraries are celebrating Music Month with a range of events. Listen to local musicians the Bidwell Family on Saturday afternoon and Model Home on Sunday afternoon.

NZSO presents Beethoven

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra presents three back-to-back concerts in Christchurch this weekend, featuring acclaimed English pianist Paul Lewis! This is a rare opportunity to enjoy Beethoven's complete piano concerto cycle performed by "one of the greatest interpreters of Beethoven's music active today."

The concerts will be led by renowned Brazilian conductor Eduardo Strausser as part of the NZSO's Immerse 2023 festival in association with Summerset Retirement Villages. Each performance will take place at the Town Hall, with Orpheus on 19 May, Reverence on 20 May and Emperor on 21 May. 

Ōtautahi Youth Market

Head down to Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, 288 Oxford Terrace, for the Ōtautahi Youth Market on Saturday! Enjoy an indoor market including live music and a variety of products. Stalls will be selling a range of items, including jewellery, art, pounamu, pottery, second hand clothes, baking and more.

Come along from 10am – 2pm tomorrow and celebrate the creativity and enterprising skills of our young people, and come away with some fresh purchases.

Crafting for Wellbeing – Create Your Own Paper Flowers

Come along and create your own paper flowers on Saturday at Tūranga. Drop in and relax and enjoy some ‘me time’ with us!

All materials are supplied and no bookings are required for this free event. Make your way to 60 Cathedral Square between 1:30pm – 3pm tomorrow.

A Renovated Heart - Art Exhibition

A Renovated Heart is Kaiapoi artist Victoria Dowall's first solo exhibition. It showcases a variety of paintings that depict her reemergence into the art world. 

Entry is free to this family-friendly event, and complementary wine and nibbles will be provided. The exhibition will take place at Arthole until Sunday 20 May, from 10am - 1pm each day.
