It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, and we’ve put together a list of free or low-cost activities to enjoy with the ‘mum’ in your life!
Mother of All Clean Ups
The annual litter collection event ‘Mother of All Clean Ups’ is back for 2024! Some 60 community groups are expected to join again this Saturday to spend two hours between 10am and Midday to collect carelessly discarded rubbish from in and around our waterways.
To take part in this huge waterway edge clean up event, meet just before 10am in front of the New Brighton Library where you will be given gloves and a bag and a way to go! Find more information here.
Central City food festival
Head over to 231 High Street from 10am - 3pm Sunday for the Slaprea Central City food festival! Slaprea is a monthly community food festival for people who believe that life is thoroughly enjoyed through food and drink. The Food Innovation Festival will take a page out of Cambodia's biggest food festivals with a promise for a variety of flavours and tastes. There will also be a bouncy castle, spring roll making class, cookie decorating for kids and childcare for under 5s in a designated section.
Entry costs $10 for adults (under 12s are free) or $5 tickets if you come via bus, EV, bike or on foot - just show a selfie of your mode of transport! All profits from the festival will go back into the space, an old vacant building on high street used by charities and community groups.
The Palms Mother’s Day Market
Come along to The Palms Shopping Centre from 9am – 6pm Saturday for a special Mother’s Day Market Day to celebrate all the mums, caregivers and mother figures out there.
There will be a live kids show with special princess and prince guests and face painting. The first 50 shoppers who spend $20 or over will receive a free goodie bag, and anyone that spends $50 or over goes in the draw to win 1 of 5 larger Mother’s Day packs! More information here.
