Racing ducks down the Avon, partying at Riverside and checking out the markets - here's what's on this weekend.

The Great Canterbury Duck Race

The Great Canterbury Duck Race, sponsors by Graham Consulting and the Media Works Foundation, is back at the Avon River! This event is free for the whole community to attend – but if you want to support the work of Life Education Trust Canterbury you can do so through the purchase of a $10 duck to enter the race on the day or online prior to the event.

The Great Race will be kicking off at Midday on Sunday and running until 2pm. Come on down to the Bridge of Remembrance to check it out.

Diwali Festival at Riverside Market

Join in at Riverside Market on Saturday evening for a vibrant celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Experience the magic of Diwali through live performances including traditional dances and music that will transport you to the heart of India.

There will be sari draping workshops, henna decorating, clay lamp decoration, rangoli art, block printing and card making. Find more information here.

Avondale Community Garden Open Day 2023

The Avondale Community Garden Open Day is taking place at the community garden, 1 Scoular Place, from 11am this Sunday. This year there will be a seedling sale with a variety of summer veggies, including pumpkins and tomatoes, sausage sizzle and a mini market.

If you would like to register a stall at the mini-market please get in touch with the garden by emailing avondalecomgarden@gmail.com, the stall fee is $10. All money raised from the day will go towards supporting the garden, cash only event.

The Tannery’s 10th Anniversary Night Market

The Tannery is turning ten, and they’ll be celebrating with a night market this Friday! Enjoy local food trucks in the car park, a bar inside the Atrium, live music to set the mood, and two designated kids areas to keep the young ones busy!

Enjoy an evening of fun for the whole family from 5pm - 8pm. The Tannery is located at 3 Garlands Road, Woolston, more information here.

Latin Street Festival

Celebrate the diversity of people and communities in Christchurch at the Latin Street Festival! Celebrate like "there is no mañana" with street food, live Latin music, a live DJ, Latin dance workshops, social dancing, and a fun and colourful atmosphere in the heart of Christchurch. 

Come along to The Arts Centre, 2 Worcester Boulevard, from 3pm to 8pm this Saturday to check out the free festivities.

Ōtautahi Spring Youth Market

The Ōtautahi Spring Youth Market is back – this time with a special spring event! The market will be on from 10am – 2pm Saturday at Oxford Terrace Baptist Auditorium with awesome vendors, friendly faces, live music, yummy kai and cool products.

Come along on the say and celebrate the creativity and enterprising skills of Christchurch’s young people, and come away with some fresh purchases and Christmas gifts. Cash and bank transfer only.
