People can enjoy splashing around in the sun come Show Weekend as the city’s outdoor pools open for the summer season.

From Saturday 12 November, the Norman Kirk Memorial pool in Lyttelton, the Templeton pool, Te Hāpua Halswell pool, and Jellie Park pool in Burnside will all be open to those who want to stay cool and keep active over the warmer months.

Families with young children will also be able to make a splash with the rest of the Council paddling pools opening on the same day.

“Our summer facilities are fun for everyone  with both lane swimming and leisure use available,” says Council Head of Recreation, Sport and Events Nigel Cox.

“We are looking forward to an exciting summer season and seeing the city’s outdoor pools filled with people enjoying themselves and staying active. We have a number of pool parties planned over the summer so keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for details.’’

Mr Cox says unfortunately Waltham Pool will not open until early December as a new pool liner is being installed after a leak in the pool tank was discovered.

“A patch of unsettled weather delayed the start of the work on the pool but the contractors are on site and we are on track to open in early December,’’ Mr Cox says.
