Local community views are being sought on what should be included in a draft Landscape Plan for the remainder of Lancaster Park.

Since April 2021 Lancaster Park has been in the process of transformation, from former stadium to recreation space and sports fields.

Lancaster Park has been grassed and new sports fields are expected to open in April.

The entire site has been grassed and the sports fields and perimeter pathway are expected to open to the public in April this year.

The remainder of the park is being set aside for the local community for informal leisure and recreational activities.

Before a draft Landscape Plan is developed for these areas Christchurch City Council wants to hear from those living in the communities surrounding the park.

“We particularly want to know what the local people are keen to see included – this is their local park and will provide much-needed greenspace for individuals and groups in the area,” says Council Head of Parks Andrew Rutledge.

“While the community spaces will need to work around those already set aside for formal sports and the existing heritage gates on Stevens Street, there are spaces for smaller elements throughout the park. This is an exciting opportunity and we want to hear from as many people as possible.”

Consultation on the community greenspace is open now and closes on Wednesday 9 March.

Pop-up at the park – Lancaster Park, Saturday 12 February, 12-2pm

Community drop-in – Charleston Reserve, Saturday 19 February, 12-2pm

Community drop-in – Olliviers Reserve, Saturday 5 March 12-2pm
