Want to unearth the skeletons buried in your family’s closet or just find out more about your ancestors?

During BECA Heritage Week you will get the chance to do just that during workshops organised by the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists and the Family History Society of New Zealand.

The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists’ Unearthing Family Stories workshop will be held at the Parklands Community Centre on October 15 from 1 to 4pm.

Society researchers will be available to offer advice on how to start unearthing your family history or to give suggestions on how to progress your research.

On the same day the Family History Society of New Zealand is opening its research rooms and library and giving people access to its rich collection of library resources from New Zealand and overseas, including cemetery records and databases of births, deaths and marriages.

Entry is free and Society members will be on hand between 10am and 3pm to help people discover their hidden family histories.

The Family History Society of New Zealand’s research rooms are located at 401a Papanui Rd.
